|Abstract: ||High Performance Computing (HPC) can be understood as the interaction of parallel and adaptive
methods with fast solvers on powerful parallel computers. Therefore, an introduction to parallel and
adaptive methods as well as to fast solvers is given. The interaction of these methods is
demonstrated using three examples which deal with groundwater flow and transport processes, gaswater
flow as well as multiphase / multicomponent flow and transport processes in the subsurface.
HPC has become applicable for a number of problem classes and modeling systems in hydro- and
environmental sciences with a reasonable effort of adapting or further developing source codes.
HPC opens new horizons for simulating and understanding complex coupled processes in large scale

The conference theme was IT in the Field of HydroSciences. It included several mini-symposia that emphasized IT topics in HydroSciences and the yearly meeting of the metadata group of the International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange organization.|
