| Abstract: | Several ruthenium(II) complexes of thioether and amine ligands with heterocyclic aromatic ligands have been synthesized and characterized through several physical techniques. X-ray crystallography shows that the Ru(II) complexes are hexacoordinate and of octahedral geometry. The Ru(II) thioether complexes are of the general formula [Ru(L1)(L2)]2+, in which L1 is a tetradentate, pyridine-containing thioether ligand and L2 is a heterocyclic diimine or triimine. The Ru(II) amine complexes make use of the simple amine ligands, Tren (Tris-(2-aminoethyl)amine) and Dien (Bis-(2-aminoethyl)amine). Both the thioether and amine complexes show high redox potentials and strong absorption in the UV-visible range. Additionally, many of these complexes display strong emission in which can be fine tuned through the use of different heterocyclic amines. |
