| Abstract: | This study explores music therapy with couples when one partner is medically hospitalized. Multiple sources have documented the deleterious effects that illness and the hospital experience can have on intimate relationships. Music therapy may be able to provide positive experiences, promoting intimacy and emotional openness, that can be diminished through the stress of illness and in-patient treatment. Through the analysis of literature and clinical case material, this study begins to explore the development of a method for music therapy with couples in an in-patient medical setting. |
